About Laura Jacobsen

Hello, my name is Laura Jacobsen and I am an assistant professor and pediatric endocrinologist. I joined the University of Florida faculty in 2018 in the department of pediatrics. I was inspired to become a physician when I volunteered at the Florida Diabetes Camp and found my passion for caring for children with complex medical conditions.

I completed my pediatric residency training at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, which was followed by a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. During my fellowship, I was recognized for excellence in medical student teaching, and received the Henry A. Kokomoor Outstanding Fellowship Award.

I provide clinical care for children with endocrine disorders and diabetes. I perform clinical and translational research in the field of Type 1 diabetes to better understand what causes Type 1 diabetes and ways to halt or prevent it. I am also conversational in American Sign Language. I aim to improve the lives of children and their families living with diabetes and endocrine conditions, not just medically but in all aspects of day-to-day life. Additionally, I strive to bring new therapies and technologies to individuals with type 1 diabetes.

When I am not working I enjoy spending time crocheting, playing soccer and visiting National parks.
